Birds caught on Landsort by Chris & Kay w/e 5th June 2016
Landsort diary 5th June 2016
All nets open at 0400 and closed at 1130. 18 new birds of 13 species, including the first four fledged Great Tits of the year.
Best bird was a second year female Serin, to go with the male caught yesterday. The male was still in the area when the female was caught and was calling close by while she was in the net. Female released back at the point of capture and was seen to rejoin the male.
A pleasant afternoon checking the nest boxes in the far north of the island and at Saltmar. Only two broods of Great Tit ringed, but both of 8 birds, all healthy and ready to fly the nest. This gave 34 new birds for the day.
Female Goosander found on nest in the far north.
Mats and Lasse, remain overnight and a new Member, Ida and her son are due on the last boat for an overnight stay. This will give 6 overnight.

Landsort Diary 4th June 2016
All nets opened at 0400 and closed at 1200. A total of 19 new birds of 13 species, including a 2CY male Serin, only the second one ever ringed on Landsort, the first being in 2002.
Another 15 Great Tit chicks from three nest boxes gave an overall tally of 34 birds of 14 species. A good days ringing in June!!! Janne had just left the Obs and was on the 0930 ferry when Chris & Kay saw the Serin feeding in front of the Obs. A quick call to Janne and he was off the ferry and back to the Obs, looking hard for the bird, but no joy. The 1030 net round however produced the goods, with the male sitting in the net by the football pitch. Janne and Lasse saw the bird and Kay added yet another species to her growing list of species ringed!
Another well-attended public guiding, with 7 adults and 2 children.
Afternoon spent checking nest boxes, being shown Lesser Butterfly Orchid (over 80 plants), having a chat and eating ice cream!!
Loaded all old timber into trailer and spent some time giving the windows the first clean after being re-installed - going to need more cleaner!!!
Janne left (on the 1730 ferry), Mats arrived, Lasse remains, giving 4 at the Obs overnight.

Landsort diary 3rd June 2016
All 30 nets opened at 0400 and closed at 1100. 16 new birds of 11 species, including the second Red-breasted Flycatcher of the year, three more Marsh Warbler and two Reed Warbler.
Three visitors who stayed overnight spent a few hours with us, taking pictures for a planned book before leaving on the 0925 ferry.
More stripping paint off windows between net rounds.
A quick lunch and then checked 58 more nest boxes from Saltmar to the north. 17 more Great Tit young, a nice brood of 4 Marsh Tit and a female Pied Flycatcher on a nest of eggs brought the overall total for the day to 38 new birds of 14 species.
Janne remains on the island overnight and Lasse Cedar has just arrived, giving four at the Obs overnight.

Landsort diary 2nd June 2016
All nets opened at 0400 and closed at 1100 with just 9 birds ringed of 6 species. Between net rounds time was well spent removing old paint from the bathroom window, ready for painting.
After a quick lunch a further 5 hours spent in the woods north of Jutvik produced 63 more pullus ringed - 54 Great Tit and 9 Blue Tit, the latter all from one brood.
Also flushed a Woodcock from a nest site and a probable Redstart nest in one of the boxes - pale blue eggs.
A tiring day, but good.
Janne arrived on the late morning boat and in the afternoon, three more arrived for the night: Marten, Henrik and Johan. Jointly, they are preparing to publish a book on the Stockholm Archipelago and are out to get photos of our work on the Observatory. So that will be 6 overnight

Landsort Diary 1st June 2016
The first day of June saw all 30 nets opened at 0400 and closed at 1100. A total of 12 new birds.
No guiding today.
Data for May submitted to Ringing Central
Time spent between net rounds cleaning paint off the toilet window, ready for painting.
Work progressing well on the Obs - seems like there are more builders at the Obs than there are birds!!!!!
Pelle and his daughter leave this afternoon, leaving just Chris & Kay at the Obs overnight.
