All nets opened at 0400 with almost calm conditions. Closed at 1200 with a total of 18 new birds of 11 species which takes the total for July to 111, not bad in just 6 days.
Two Jackdaw were caught, the best day catch ever here. More a reflection of their greed for food and recent increases in numbers on the island than it is to do with our 'skills' in trapping, much as we would like to claim otherwise!!!
A public guided talk for two people was well received.
The afternoon was not so productive. After a lovely shower yesterday in our new shower we were disappointed to see that the sewage pipe has blocked and is leaking into the basement. A visit from Thomas this afternoon confirmed the worst, so after huge efforts by everyone involved to get the new bathroom ready as quickly as possible we are now without a WC, no shower and not able to use either sink!!!
Every effort is being made to resolve this as speedily as possible but in the meantime we are both a bit deflated, seems like the saying of 'one step forward and two steps backward' is true in this case!!!
Just Chris & Kay at the Obs tonight and given the problems with the sewers this is perhaps a fortunate thing!!!
