All nets opened at 0430 and closed at 1100. Throughout the morning mist kept coming and going, bringing the occasional light rain, but very short-lasting and not heavy, so it was possible to keep up the nets. Perfect conditions for catching which resulted in 76 new birds of 20 species.
A really nice mix of species, but dominated by 26 Pied Flycatcher, a new autumn daily record, the previous best being 20 on the 24th August 2010. Another female Sparrowhawk, the 4th of the autumn with no males caught yet - quite unusual.
Poor visibility meant that no waders etc were seen flying over the Obs.
This weeks excellent ringing has taken us past 4000 for the year with the 2nd highest tally of birds caught in a year at this stage of the season.
Just Chris & Kay at the Obs tonight.
