Another hot and sunny week on Landsort, interspersed with the occassional thunder-storm, like the one last night with over 4,000 lightening strikes!! Not much rain though, but enough to reduce the immediate risk of fire.
Out of a mixed bag of birds ringed were a couple of ringing ticks, Kay got to ring two young Barred Warbler and Chris a Blyth's Reed Warbler, just the 14th to be ringed here. More Swallows took the total for the year to 58 which is 40 more than the previous best year. Icterine Warbler too have had a good year, with 54 caught so far, compared to a previous best of just 27.
Moth-trapping has been quiet, partly due to the weather. Not a lot else to report this week, it seems to have flown by without doing that much. Once the weather cools a bit there are plenty of jobs to be done, including checking the location and condition of around 200 nest boxes; but not in this heat!!!
