Calm enough to open all nets at 0400, but some closed an hour or so later as the wind increased. Reduced to Standard round after 1200 and closed the final nets at 1400. Best days ringing this autumn with 97 new birds of 18 species, with 47 Willow Warbler among them, a decent catch of four Wood Warbler, and a very smart looking female Kestrel, the first one caught since 2013 and only the 7th ever for the Observatory.

A recently fledged Yellowhammer, with wings not yet fully grown is a good reminder of how long the breeding season is for some species; males were singing when we arrived in early April and we caught the first young bird of the year on 10th June, so todays bird will definitely be from a 2nd brood.
Really nice to be catching good numbers and although it is nowhere near busy yet, it's a lot better than 5 birds in 7 hours!!!!
Just Chris & Kay at the Obs overnight.
