Landsort diary 8th August 2016

Due to strong winds only 7 nets could be opened at 0400 and these were kept open until 1100. The best thing we can say about the morning was that we caught more birds than the number of nets open - 8 birds of 7 species!!!!

Six members of the public attended the lecture at 1130, which went on until 1300 with lots of good questions asked and plenty of interest in the work of the Observatory.

Fredrik was out for the day with his family, but the forecast for very strong winds tomorrow caused them to cancel tonight's planned over-night stop.

There should be three at the Obs tonight: Kay, Chris and a new Member who only joined this morning and is coming for two nights.

To end on a disappointing note, the honesty box by the notice board, where people can pay 20kr for a map has had two of the old style 20kr notes left in it. As these are no longer legal tender it is, in effect, taking the maps without paying for them. A petty and sad trick to pull on a place that enjoys fantastic public and community support and which relies on that support to continue its research.
