Chris & Kay on Landsort 12th June 2016

It's been noticeable this week that there are many youngsters about. The Greenfinch and Starlings have had fledged young for some time now, closely followed by the Great Tits, but this week we have seen a few recently fledged Linnet, Yellowhammer and White Wagtails.

119 birds ringed this week, giving a months total so far of 310, the third best totals for the 1st half of June since the Observatory was established in 1988. In recent past there has been very little ringing during June and July, so it will be interesting to see how we fare this year.

Getting towards the end of nest box ringing now, over 220 boxes checked and just a few re-visits to do in the coming week.

Work on the windows seems to have come to a halt, but those that have been repaired are looking smart - at least if you don't look too closely!!  This week should see the completion of the toilet installation, along with the new shower. All mod cons!
