Landsort diary 12th June 2016

Strong North wind restricted opening of nets to 20 at 0400 but by 0500 it was possible to open the remaining 10 as the wind dropped and gradually it became a bit warmer. Nets closed at 1100 by which time it was almost calm but with increased cloud cover.

A total of 15 new birds of 11 species, including a female Fieldfare.

Last night, having thought non of the members booked for the nights of 10th & 11th would show up, Mans arrived with his two small children. Turns out they, along with Johan and his two youngsters were the 'six men' we had been told had booked for the two nights, but actually it was only for one night and sadly Johan could not make it. So, mystery solved!!!!

That gave 5 at the Obs last night, but (as far as we know!!!) just Chris & Kay tonight.

The afternoon was spent re-visiting some of the nest boxes where young were too small on first visit or partly built nests were found. No more new birds ringed, but two broods to do in the next few days.
