All nets opened at 0400 after a shower of rain passed by at 0300, with almost calm conditions. Very overcast to start with a small amount of rain at 0600 but lasted a few minutes
All nets closed at 1100 with 19 new birds of 12 species, including the first Woodpigeon of the year (7th for the Observatory) and a ringing tick for Kay.
Also caught the first fledged Common Whitethroat of the year.
Best bird though was the female Serin, first caught on 5th June. This 2cy bird was found to have a very pronounced brood patch, indicating definite breeding condition.
Checked the final nest box of the year, a late clutch of Great Tit. Sadly, 7 cold dead eggs found.
Today is the half-way point of the year and we have finished with 2640 birds, far above the average for this time of year.
End of month paperwork planned for this afternoon.
Just Chris & Kay tonight at the Obs
