Landsort Diary 4th June 2016

All nets opened at 0400 and closed at 1200. A total of 19 new birds of 13 species, including a 2CY male Serin, only the second one ever ringed on Landsort, the first being in 2002.

Another 15 Great Tit chicks from three nest boxes gave an overall tally of 34 birds of 14 species. A good days ringing in June!!! Janne had just left the Obs and was on the 0930 ferry when Chris & Kay saw the Serin feeding in front of the Obs. A quick call to Janne and he was off the ferry and back to the Obs, looking hard for the bird, but no joy. The 1030 net round however produced the goods, with the male sitting in the net by the football pitch. Janne and Lasse saw the bird and Kay added yet another species to her growing list of species ringed!

Another well-attended public guiding, with 7 adults and 2 children.

Afternoon spent checking nest boxes, being shown Lesser Butterfly Orchid (over 80 plants), having a chat and eating ice cream!!

Loaded all old timber into trailer and spent some time giving the windows the first clean after being re-installed - going to need more cleaner!!!

Janne left (on the 1730 ferry), Mats arrived, Lasse remains, giving 4 at the Obs overnight.
