Chris & Kay the week ened 29th May 2016

(Yet another) quiet week for birds on Landsort with only 188 new birds caught, of 25 species. New species for the year were: Blyth's Reed Warbler (1), Sedge Warbler (2) and Barn Swallow (1).

Plenty to keep us busy though, including finishing off ringing the young Starlings in nest boxes - a total of 48 chicks ringed, together with the first brood of great Tit - 7 chicks ringed today. Yesterday the first of the Starling chicks were seen outside their nest box, looking a bit lost and confused.

On Tuesday we were given a 6kg Salmon by Tore, one of several caught in the week, with one of 16kg! The salmon made great steaks for the big event of the week, Sorcha arriving for an over-night trip with five of her mates. Arrived on the 1000 ferry on Thursday and we all spent some time walking around the south part of the island, enjoying some sporadic sunshine. Next morning, before they caught the 0925 ferry they saw what 'Momma-K' does for a living - catching and ringing birds.

Not a lot else to report, except a quiet weekend with no over-night stays by Members on Saturday or Sunday.
