Landsort diary 7th May 2016

All 30 nets opened at 0400 and closed at 1200 with 31 new birds of 11 species, including the first four Bluethroat of the year, one of which was of the race cyanecula. This race, with a white spot on the chest instead of blue is uncommon in Sweden but is being seen with increasing frequency, especially in the south.

This was the first Saturday of the year that we had advertised public guided talks and we were unsure how many might attend, At 1100 we were pleased that 10 adults and 2 children attended, giving an opportunity to let more people know about the important work being done here. All money raised goes directly towards the running costs of the Observatory.

In  the afternoon, Kay and Chris, with help from Gunila went to SUDD to clear the 11 net rides there of overhanging trees, fallen branches and briar, ready for nets to be put up.

Others caught up with much needed sleep!!!

Mova left the Observatory in the afternoon, leaving six overnight: Chris, Kay, Gunila, Mats, Lasse and Anders
