A mixed week here on Landsort. After a very promising start to April the week was a bit quiet with the winds from the north slowing migration down until Friday when numbers of birds caught and the range of species increased.
On the 29th an adult male Collared Flycatcher was caught, only the 34th ever caught here. It really is a splendid looking bird, which added to a smattering of male Redstart, some male Siskin and a couple more Wryneck certainly added colour to the net rounds.
Snakes are basking in many places as we walk our rounds, often giving good views. A range of butterfly are out and about, the spring flowers are in full bloom and most of the Starlings have full clutches of eggs.
Work continues on the outside of the building and we are just waiting for some windows to arrive before the next phase can begin. Toilet should be fitted at end of May/start June when we will be without hot water for a week or so. Perfect timing for when Sorcha and her friends arrive for a night on their Scandinavian road-trip.
Made some planters today ready for a range of salad leaves and herbs to be planted.
