Landsort diary 2nd May 2016

All 30 nets opened at 0430 with no wind and a high cloud cover. Great expectations of a day as good as yesterday were not to be, with just 49 new birds caught by the time the nets were closed at 1200. A good day to be on Landsort however, as there was a real spring warmth to the day, with many birds starting to sing and Wryneck calling from several locations.
In the afternoon, while Pelle emptied and re-built the barbeque brick area, Kay and Chris went to find the 10 nest boxes designed for Wryneck to put some wood-chippings in them, hoping to encourage them to nest. A long walk through thick cover, but plenty of spring flowers on the forest floor and an eagle gliding overhead. Reckon we will have walked in excess of 12 miles today.

Pelle, Chris and Kay at the Obs tonight.
