Landsort diary 10th May 2016

All nets open at 0400 and closed at 1200. Seemed like a very long morning, with just 26 birds of 11 species, with the second Thrush Nightingale of the season, the first being a re-trap. Two more Bluethroat takes the year total to eight.

An unexpected visitor turned up this morning: Marie Lindholm arrived for the night. Seems like she had booked but somehow the booking had not made it onto the form at the Obs!!! All the more pleasurable to see her walking up the lane towards us. Like so many of the visitors to the Obs this year she was delighted with the visual improvement resulting from the exterior works and is excited at the plans for doing the interior as well.

Hobby flying north this morning.

Roger Ohman, who is working on the island called up to the Obs to report having seen a white-spotted Bluethroat (cyanecula) near the lighthouse - 100% certain of identification, but could not see the leg to see if was ringed, so we can't be certain if it was the same bird that we caught a few days ago.
